II Corinthians
8:3-5 (NIV)
For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond
their ability. Entirely on their own, they urgently pleaded with us for
the privilege of sharing in this service to the saints. And they did not
do as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the LORD and then
to us in keeping with God's will.

Angel Tree Prison
Ministry
The Angel Tree Prison Ministry is a mentoring program for children with
one or more parents incarcerated. When it comes to having a truly
significant influence in the lives of at-risk children, studies indicate
that mentoring by concerned adults is the single most effective strategy
for building character and curbing destructive behavior in children.
Angel Tree is a wonderful way to express Christ’s love. It may help open
hearts to receive the most important Gift, the one God gave to provide
us with salvation and forgiveness of sins. Angel Tree can bring a great
blessing to you and to any number of families to which you minister.
Sis. Carolyn Wilson
Care Givers Ministry
The Care Givers Ministry is made up of family, friends and neighbors who
stand by those we love as they face chronic illness or disability. We
share a common bond with each other despite the fact that some of us
care for our spouses, while others care for parents, children, siblings
or other loved ones and despite the fact that we deal with a wide array
of medical conditions and diagnoses. We are a diverse group of people of
all ages and from all walks of life, some new to care giving, some just
anticipating becoming caregivers and others for whom it has become a way
of life. We are a support group of persons with a common cause who lend
support, strength, comfort and encouragement to each other when dealing
with various situations.

Sis. Barbara Craig
Celebrate Recovery Outreach Ministry
Celebrate Recovery was established in 2005, to provide spiritual support
and guidance for persons addicted to alcohol and/or drugs. This ministry
was borne out of the Angel Tree Ministry. The church has embraced the
Angel Tree Ministry and the mentorship of prisoners’ children. If a
church can mentor a needy child, why not a recovering addict? Celebrate
Recovery Outreach Ministry is a powerful vehicle of evangelism which
serves to actively mentor adults and encourage deliverance through Jesus
Christ. Transforming lives, one day at a time, will develop a healthy
relationship with God, with family, with the community and with oneself.

Cyclists For Christ
Cyclists for Christ is a ministry where we fellowship with other
Christian cyclists. No experience is necessary which supports our motto
“no rider left behind”. This ministry has a tri-fold focus: good
Christian fellowship, spiritual health and physical fitness. Our mission
is to equip Christian cyclists for traveling testimony and sportsmanship
as well as to expose each cyclist we encounter to the love and peace of
Jesus Christ. All ages and levels of riders are welcomed and encouraged
to join!

Evangelism
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations . . . And surely I am
with you always, to the very end of the age." Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV)
This ministry will help you replace the hesitancy and apprehension of
“going with excitement and zeal”. Evangelism is a gift that all
believers have. Participation in this ministry will help you learn to
share your faith in Jesus Christ with others and thereby become a Great
Commissioned Christian. Realize that people will get saved because of
your obedience. You will learn to share your faith in a wide variety of
situations with family, friends, and/or strangers in ten minutes or
less. Experience the joy of seeing people pray to receive Christ as
Savior. You will also learn to teach other believers to share their
faith.

Missionary Ministry —Area Council
Missionaries
“Then He said to His disciples, "The harvest truly is plentiful, but the
laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out
laborers into His harvest" (Mt 9:37-38 NKJV)
Answer His call — tell His story — change your world
A missionary is a person who, in response to God’s call and gifting,
leaves his or her comfort zone and crosses cultural, geographic or other
barriers to proclaim the gospel and live out a Christian witness in
obedience to the Great Commission. Please join us as we unite with other
churches in the area to spread the Word. Both men and women are
encouraged to join.

Emergency Shelter Team
“If you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs
of the oppressed,
then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become
like the noonday.”
Isaiah 58:10 (NIV)
The Norfolk Emergency Shelter Team, or NEST, is a
wonderful program that helps provide wintertime shelter for homeless men
and women in the Hampton Roads area. From October to April, various
churches take turns serving as shelters for the week. The churches
provide the guests with a safe, warm place to sleep, as well as a hearty
dinner and breakfast each day. We need volunteers for registration,
night monitoring, breakfast preparation, serving and clean-up; and
dinner preparation, serving and clean-up. First Baptist Church, Berkley
provides shelter nightly to approximately 50 homeless guests for seven
days somewhere between the 2nd and 3rd week of December.

Vacation Bible School is a children’s ministry designed to share the
Good News with children in a format developed for their unique learning
styles. It is a fun, exciting, easy, powerful way to reach out and share
the Gospel message with our own children as well as children in the
community. This ministry helps children learn how to have a relationship
with God.
Vacation Bible School is usually held the 3rd week in July. It is from
Monday through Friday, 6:30pm—8:30pm. VBS is geared towards children
ages 3-12. We need adult and teen volunteers in various capacities to

Children’s Worship Ministry
A ministry of basics: Educating, equipping, and encouraging. Our mission
is to introduce children to Christ and to prepare them for worship in
the regular service. The youth involved in this ministry are given the
chance to carry out the various duties of the worship service (prayer
leading, reading scripture, singing praises, offering collection). God’s
Word is presented to the youth weekly in a sermon style that they are
able to comprehend. In addition to their church service, children also
attend classes where the weekly message is further investigated through
various activities such as Bible study, arts and crafts. Children’s
Worship Services are offered each Sunday with the exception of second
Sunday at 11 a.m.
Sis. Cherri Wilson

Audio Tape Ministry
This ministry helps us to spread God’s Word by preparing audio tapes and
CDs of our services. Tapes are distributed to the sick and shut-in at no
cost and are available for a small donation of $5.00 to members and
friends of our congregation. Proceeds from the sales go to the William
D. Tyree, Jr. Scholarship Fund. The audio tape ministry also needs
volunteers willing to learn how to operate the church’s sound system.

Building and Grounds
The Buildings and Grounds Ministry is entrusted with the upkeep, repair,
maintenance and appearance of the church property – (inside and
outside). The mission of the Buildings and Grounds Committee is three
fold: to be responsive to the daily maintenance requirements of the
property (i.e. lawn maintenance), to develop a comprehensive planning
process for anticipated maintenance requirements and long term growth,
and to establish a fiscally responsible plan that gives consideration to
facilities, equipment, and personnel with projects and timing
appropriately prioritized. We need members who don’t mind sharing their
time and energy to be a part of this ministry.
Deacon Arthur Copeland
Deacon John Anderson
Hospitality Committee
The hospitality committee is in charge of welcoming visitors to the
church and informing the congregation of note worthy announcements of
church activities.
Sis. Sandra Johnson
Kitchen Ministry
"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and
you gave me something to drink..." Matthew 25:35 (NIV)
The Kitchen Ministry is a wonderful way for fellowship, good
conversation, and giving of yourself to the church as you host for many
different church functions. We cook together, pray together, share our
lives with each other, love and support one another, all the while
turning out some really delicious meals. This ministry prepares and
provides well planned, tasteful and nutritious meals for church wide
functions, funerals and special events within the church where the
preparation of food is a necessity. This team is comprised of preparers,
servers and decorators. It doesn’t matter if you are a man, a woman, a
student, a gourmet chef, shop at the deli, or frequent the
drive-through, you can be involved.
