Deaconess Ministry

Many, if not all, early Christian churches had women who served as deaconesses. In his letter to the church at Rome, the Apostle Paul refers to “Phoebe, our sister, a servant of the church“ (Romans 16:1). The main purpose of the Deaconess Ministry is to enhance the spiritual matters of the church and help foster peace, love, and Christian unity in the membership by witness and behavior.

Our responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • the purchase and preparation of bread and wine for the LORD’s Supper
  • the cleaning and maintaining of all equipment used in the service of the LORD’s Supper including the trays, glasses, candle holders, linens, etc.
  • to see that all equipment has been collected and cleaned following the service
  • to assist all candidates during regular Baptismal Service by supplying robes and insuring that candidates have proper attire for the occasion
  • to prepare families for the Dedicatory Service and blessing of babies
  • to see that the Certificate of Dedication and Consecration are properly filled out and signed

As members of the Deaconess Ministry of First Baptist Church, Berkley, we are committed to serving God and are here to assist the Pastor and Deacons in ministering to the physical, spiritual and emotional needs of the members and their families.
